Eating Edibles or Smoking Flower: What’s More Potent?

NASA Scientist Explains the Cannabis Plant Parts

Are you thinking about trying edibles but want to know if they are the best choice?

Have you been smoking cannabis for a long time and want to try edibles?

The question of whether edibles are more potent than smoking has actually been discussed for years. There have been many studies conducted to try and answer this question, but the results are inconclusive. Most of these studies were done by scientists who had a bias, either an affirmative or negative answer, which skews their findings.

The most recent data on this subject was published in the journal of Drug Policy Analysis last year. They found that there was no significant difference in the THC concentration between edibles and smoking cannabis flower products concerning total THC content per unit weight. However, they did find that some edible items contained significantly more THC.

What Is an Edible?

Before we discuss the potency of each of these marijuana consumption methods, let’s take a deeper look into what they are. Edibles are exactly what they sound like, it is food that you can eat that has been infused with cannabis. Edibles have been around for decades now and are most commonly found in the form of baked goods such as cookies and brownies. These baked goods were traditionally made at home. However, in the past few years, edibles have become an incredibly popular consumption method and there are now so many different kinds to choose from.

You are also not restricted to making your own at home, but rather you can buy just about anything from your local dispensary. When it comes to edibles, on top of your standard baked goods, you can also find candy, drinks in all different forms, various condiments of food, and even full meals that have been infused with cannabis. The options are endless and there are so many different ones to choose from. One reason they are so popular is because of just how easy they are to get a hold of. While they might be a bit more expensive than smoking a joint, it is still worth it.

What Is a Joint?

Opposing that of edibles, the next one we have is joints. Joints are by far the most popular and most commonly used method of consumption for cannabis, and there is no surprise why. It happens to be the cheapest method of consumption and it is also very easy to get a hold of all of the essentials you need to roll a joint as they are the same that you would need when rolling your cigarette. Joints are simple and straightforward. You just need to roll the weed in the rolling paper, which is easily available at Daily High Club, pop in a filter at one end, and then light up. If this is too much for you, you can also buy pre-rolled cones from Daily High Club, which make it easy to fill with dry flower and begin enjoying.

Potency of Edibles

When it comes to edibles, especially as a beginner, you need to be careful. It is commonly known that when you consume edible you will have a much stronger high than you would if you smoke a joint. This is because it goes through a completely different chemical process in the body. On top of this, you typically consume more cannabis when you have an edible than when you smoke which constitutes these heightened effects. Another thing to keep in mind is that a high from edibles will take a lot longer to kick in. Typically you will start feeling something in thirty minutes to around two hours, once you have digested the food. These effects can last up to 8 hours or longer with some product, depending on how it was infused and how much fat content it contains, as THC is fat soluble.

Potency of Smoking Joints

When it comes to smoking joints, the process and effects are pretty standard and something that is easy to manage. When smoking, the effects will generally kick in within a few minutes or in up to twenty minutes, and it will last for a couple of hours. Although the effects don’t last as long and are not nearly as potent as edibles, a big benefit of this is that you can control the kind of high that you want to have and how long you want it to last.

Start low, go slow, know your dose, and experiment safely until you understand how best the plant works for you.
