Cannabis tea has been around for medical treatment and relaxation since around 2737 B.C. It was prescribed by Emperor Shen Neng of China to treat ailments such as gout, rheumatism, malaria, and impaired memory during that time frame. Since then, cannabis tea has gained in popularity as a way to consume cannabinoids without smoking or eating edibles. Once properly decarboxylated, cannabis tea can be a powerful and safe alternative to those methods and is preferred in some cases.
Decarboxylation is the process o f transforming raw cannabis into more potent forms. In unprocessed cannabis plants, the molecular number of cannabinoid chemicals is altered.
A temperature range of 220 to 240 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal for raw cannabis for 30 to 40 minutes, this allows one to utilize the medicine easier and make a medicinal boil out of the decarbed cannabis.
As a result of drinking medicinal boil tea, the sensation is delayed until the tea has circulated throughout the body, it can have long-lasting and euphoric effects. After drinking cannabis tea, one may feel altered for around an hour and a half, possibly longer depending on the boil, cultivar, or strain. Your experience will also be influenced by the potency of THC content. Feelings might linger for up to eight hours after ingesting the tea. I find this best for an evening sleepy time tea.
Medicinal tea blend ingredients:
Flower of choice stems and or leaves each with be a different strength, (go slow)
Coconut oil or unsalted butter
*Sugar, honey, creamer optional
Depending on the decarbed flower of choice and the amount you want to make will be the deciding factor on how much time you will need to boil. I tend to lean more towards the medicinal boil end myself which is 10-15 minutes and a steep of 3-5 minutes. I do tend to use stems and dried plant material in my blends.
I then add extra virgin or live coconut oil to pull the cannabinoids out of the flower and extract more of the medicine. As cannabinoids and fats are both hydrophobic, THC molecules easily dissolveinlipidswhenheatedtogetherin a solution.
Add your flower or biomass to a pot of boiling water and turn the temperature down to simmer on a slow and low heat for 10-15 minutes. You can boil for longer if you would like.
If you have it in a tea infuser your flower should be contained, if some of it has mixed within the water you can strain it for drinking. Then enjoy. Go forth, Go Cannabis.
